Strategic Plan

The Association of American Schools in South America

Established in 1961, AASSA is a non-profit membership association currently serving forty-one American / International schools throughout South America and offshore islands. AASSA is administered by an executive director who employs a professional staff to assist with publications, inservice programs, grant management, purchasing, shipping and accounting.

The association serves as a structure through which personnel in member schools can plan cooperatively to attain common goals and to solve mutual problems. AASSA seeks to broaden the dimensions of education and to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in member schools.

A major part of AASSA's efforts is devoted to annual in-service programs for overseas school personnel. Once each year's in-service topics are decided by the membership, the association plans the locations and logistics of each workshop, and provides several expert consultants in the field. AASSA also supplements member schools for the costs of their attending teachers. Along with the meetings, publishers and school suppliers exhibit the latest in books and teaching aids so that our school personnel are exposed to the most current materials available.

AASSA is supported primarily by membership dues and service charges, and by contracts and grants from the Office of Overseas Schools, United States Department of State. The association works closely with the Office of Overseas Schools in coordinating staff development programs for schools throughout the region.
