Welcome to the AASSA Emergent Literacy Project (ELP). Here you can find resources specific to your work teaching literacy to young learners in International Schools in South America.
- Family Literacy resources are available in seven languages to help you support students’ language and literacy learning in the home.
- Instructional resources have been compiled to offer you more activities and strategies to support multilingual learners in the classroom.
- Assessments have been developed in English, Spanish and Portuguese to enable you to measure your students language and literacy progress in both the home and target language.
Intervention resources have been compiled to help you support young learners who need more stimulation to meet language and literacy goals.

The AASSA ELP originated from a grant, written by Keren Soriano from Graded School, entitled Preventing Reading Difficulties: A Guide to Early Identification and Intervention in Multilingual Classrooms which was generously funded by the U.S. State Department Office of Overseas Schools with support from the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
